| POP-UP-ADS |
What is a Popup?
A new browser window that appears unrequested (by you) on your screen. A gratuitous, easily-programmed visual effect exploited by many web sites often to the consternation of the hapless user. Commonly used for advertisements. Particularly annoying are those termed exit popups: browser windows that spring to life when you leave a site or when you close a browser window. (Scripting languages call these "onUnload" and "onClose" events.) We have never encountered one of these that was useful.
XpressAmerica has a couple ways to stop these annoying popups. Sometimes they sneak in from free-ware you may have downloaded. Someones gotta pay for the free programs. In most cases the free-ware companies get paid by other companies to put Ad-Ware in there programs, that cause pop-up windows to appear on any website. The other are sites that get paid when there ad pops up when you leave the site, as explained above. There are two programs available at our download site that will reduce, and maybe even eliminate these annoying adds. They are AD-Aware SE, and the Google Toolbar. They are free. Ad-Aware will clean most spyware off your computer. Ad-Aware does offer this program for free in hopes that you'll upgrade to their paid version. In googles case... it sends you there search engine where ads are very limited. |
